“Diving Into Your Draft" — a new Firefly coaching package

Two little legs and a splash appear at the top of a wide, blue lake — evidence that someone just dove in.

Hi everyone — Kim here, one of the coaches at Firefly.

One of my favourite things to do is talk to writers about their stories. I love getting to know and understand how different stories work, asking questions and bouncing ideas, watching writers uncover new arcs and strengthen hidden themes.

I do some of this in my workshop, The Novel Writing Toolkit, but Chris and I have been talking about how I can do it more, and today we’re launching that — Diving Into Your Draft, a coaching package for writers who have most or all of a first draft done and have no idea what to do with it.

I know this goes without saying, but let me just say it — your story is your story. Way too often in formal manuscript evaluations, editors come in with their own agenda or vision for a story, quickly overriding the author’s intuition and sensibilities. This is different.

Instead of taking your story away and working on it, we’ll have a series of meaningful conversations about your work. I’ll get you to write me a synopsis, and send me excerpts. I’ll ask you a million questions. My goal is to help you uncover the draft that’s alive inside the last one.

I work with memoir and fiction, there may even be some poetry projects that are a fit. You can have a no pressure call with me first to make sure I’m the right fit for you.

Take a look :)

I’m so excited. And when you’re ready, I would love to hear what you’re working on.

Depending on where you live, it may be too cold to dive into a nearby lake or river…

But there’s always a public pool so diving in is possible all year round.

Who's ready to suit up?

In it with you,
